Simon J Eisdell Moore SC is the Chairman of partners and Crown Solicitor for Auckland.
He was appointed Crown Solicitor in 1994 following the retirement of his predecessor the late Honourable Justice David Morris. His Warrant covers the greater Auckland area and as such he has overall responsibility for the prosecution of all indictable crime in the region. He has appeared for the Crown on most of the major criminal trials in the Auckland region over the last two decades. Some of the more notable cases he has been engaged in include Bert Potter, Peter Plumley-Walker, Peter Mwai (HIV prosecution), Malcolm Rewa (South Auckland rapist), William Bell (RSA murders), Ese Falealii (ASB and pizza delivery double murders), Antonie Dixon (samurai sword attacks and machine gun murder), Tuariki Delamere, Kahui (baby twin murders), Taito Phillip Field.
Simon Moore has also appeared as counsel before a variety of professional disciplinary tribunals including the Medical Council, Dental Council, Physiotherapists, Ophthalmologists, Real Estate and more recently before the Judicial Control Authority of the New Zealand Racing Board in relation to jockey Lisa Cropp.
In 2001 the British Government appointed him Public Prosecutor for Pitcairn Island. In this role he was responsible for the oversight of the investigation and prosecution of 12 men for historic sexual offending. The trials led to convictions which were ultimately affirmed by the Privy Council in October 2006.
In 2007 he was briefed by the Tongan Government to prosecute the murder trials arising out of the riots in Nukualofa in November of that year.
In 2008 he was appointed General Counsel to the Eden Park Redevelopment Board in anticipation of the Rugby World Cup 2011.
In October of the same year he was called to the Inner Bar and appointed Senior Counsel or SC.
He is President of the Deafness Research Foundation, President of The Northern Club, Chairman of the Board of Governors of King’s School, Deputy Master of the Pakuranga Hunt, Past President of the Medico-Legal Society, Fellow and Trustee of Selwyn College, Dunedin, Panel Prosecutor for the Serious Fraud Office, pro bono Prosecutor for the SPCA, a member of the Law Society’s Disciplinary Prosecution Panel and an Advisory Board member of the Stellar Trust which is dedicated to the reduction and ultimate elimination of methamphetamine abuse in our community.
