Criminal Litigation
Spearheaded by Crown Solicitor Simon Moore SC, Meredith Connell’s Criminal Litigation team is primarily focused around our criminal sessions group, which prosecutes virtually all indictable crime in the greater Auckland region under the auspices of Simon’s Crown Warrant.
Every day, Meredith Connell litigators appear in courtrooms around Auckland, including the Auckland High Court and the various District Courts in the region.
The criminal prosecutions conducted by our team of Crown lawyers are of every conceivable nature, from high public profile cases such as RSA killer William Bell, murderer and Samurai sword attacker Antonie Dixon and MP Phillip Field to less well-known but equally pressing matters running the gamut of minor to serious crime, including sexual, violent, fraud and drug offences.
White-collar crime is certainly a feature of our prosecution work, with trial preparation ongoing on matters such as the recent spate of collapsed finance companies.
Outside Simon's Warrant, we have been briefed on a number of other noteworthy cases, such as the David Bain and Scott Watson cases, which were taken to trial in other parts of New Zealand.
We also undertake criminal prosecutions on behalf of other government agencies, including WINZ, CYFS, Internal Affairs, Health, Immigration, Commerce Commission, Financial Markets Authority, SFO and others.
Our expertise and breadth of experience in criminal litigation, in particular, has helped establish the firm at the forefront of litigation practice in New Zealand – and allowed us to build the country’s largest team of specialist litigators operating under a single nameplate.
It’s an area in which we claim a rock solid reputation as a force to be reckoned with… and a long and proud history of distinguished service.
