Fionnghuala Cuncannon

Fionnghuala is an Associate in the firm's General Litigation Group.
She has a broad commercial and civil litigation experience having advised public entities and private corporations on both contentious and non-contentious matters. Fionnghuala has also assisted clients with compliance audits and staff training in relation to the Commerce Act, Fair Trading Act and Securities Act.
Fionnghuala has particular expertise in relation to competition matters. She has been responsible for merger clearance applications to the Commerce Commission for major players in the telecommunications, oil and media industries. Fionnghuala has also acted for private clients in Commerce Act proceedings and now acts for the Commerce Commission in relation to cartel proceedings.
Fionnghuala has also advised both state owned enterprises and private corporations in relation to public law matters including judicial review proceedings and the application of legislation including the Official Information Act and the Privacy Act.
Fionnghuala studied at Victoria University of Wellington (where she was awarded the Commercial Law Prize), Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany and at the University of Cambridge (on a Commonwealth Scholarship).
Fionnghuala has also lectured Contract Law at Victoria University of Wellington and worked, on secondment, at the UK's Office of Fair Trading in the Competition Act enforcement team.
