Mark Davies

Mark has a background that encompasses a wide range of litigation matters.
Prior to joining Meredith Connell, Mark worked at the Crown Law Office from 1996-2000, becoming a Crown Counsel specialising in criminal advocacy. During this period Mark prosecuted jury trials and appeared regularly in the Court of Appeal. He was also junior counsel for the Crown in the Marlborough Sounds murder trial and appeared in the subsequent Court of Appeal and Privy Council hearings.
In 2000 Mark moved to Sydney to practice commercial litigation at a top tier Australian law firm before returning to New Zealand and joining Meredith Connell in 2002 to assist with the development of a civil and commercial litigation practice. As a lead Partner in the firm’s private litigation practice, Mark now acts for a range of corporate clients and governmental bodies and providing litigation advice and advocacy services.
He is also experienced in mediation and arbitration work and in alternative ways of resolving commercial disputes.
Sample Mandates

Acting for major national retailers and public bodies in relation to various leasing and property matters, including rent review litigation and other contentious arbitrations as well as injunction proceedings and other property related proceedings.

Mark acts for an overseas private equity fund in relation to significant contract-related litigation involving property transactions worth over $100 million.

Regularly working with creditors and liquidators in relation to claims against directors for breaches of director’s duties.

Mark also acts for Maritime New Zealand in relation to matters arising from its legislation.
