The Fair Trading Act 1986 ("the Act") regulates misleading or deceptive conduct and representations made by those in "trade" as well as providing for the disclosure of consumer information relating to the supply of goods and services. It is one of the Commerce Commission's main functions to enforce the Act in accordance with its aims of protecting consumers and creating an informed marketplace and equal competition.
Meredith Connell advises the Commerce Commission in relation to investigations and conducts prosecutions against both companies and individuals alleging breaches of the Act.
