In today’s business world, claiming you’re different to the rest is a mantra that sometimes disguises little substance. However at Meredith Connell, we like to think we really are a different kind of law firm: one that offers sharper thinking, sounder advice, better value for our clients, and a better working environment for our lawyers and support staff.
Our role as the office of the Crown Solicitor for Auckland is an important part of that difference. It’s a role we’ve held since 1922 and that has, naturally, exerted a strong and very positive influence over the direction the firm has taken.
As we prosecute virtually all indictable crime in the Auckland region, we’ve built up a large team of highly regarded and very experienced litigators who have an innate and powerful understanding of every aspect of courtroom practice.
It has also led us to take on significant work involving Crown, public and state entities and, importantly, build a wealth of knowledge on the interaction of those entities with the interests and ambitions of the commercial world. From that platform has flowed a large amount of purely commercial work, covering all legal aspects of property, infrastructure, business and corporate activity.
Add in medico-legal and civil litigation and you have a firm with a very particular range of selective and complementary practice areas.
We’re now organised around four key groupings: criminal litigation, commercial property, corporate law, and regulatory and commercial litigation.
We have evolved into a large law firm – in fact, we are easily New Zealand's largest litigation practice.
And we have the calibre of people, the depth of resources and the breadth of services that goes with the territory of the large firm. Offset by the lower fees of a firm that keeps extravagant overheads and unnecessary marketing budgets to a minimum.
We’re also determined to maintain the friendly, welcoming, and inclusive culture that has always been the hallmark of how we’ve gone about things.
While some might say such attributes are largely irrelevant to the robust demands of cutting-edge legal practice, we believe every aspect of the firm’s values and culture ultimately help contribute to the successful outcomes our clients are after.
And so far, our results indicate that belief to be absolutely right.
